SubClass Of: material location change process

Class Hierarchy

owl:Thing β€Ί bfo:entity β€Ί bfo:occurrent β€Ί bfo:process β€Ί planned process β€Ί material location change process β€Ί transport process

Definition

material location change process in which material entities are moved from one location to another by a material artifact or engineered system bearing a means of transport role, as part of a planned logistics process

Explanatory Notes

  1. A transport process requires an artifact bearing a means of transport role; it does not require a separate artifact bearing a transport equipment role. The same artifact may bear both, as a tanker does.

  2. This class is neutral about what is moved; freight is covered by cargo role. Transportation between trading parties’ locations, as distinct from movement within a site, is supply chain transport process, which has a transport process as a part.

Examples

  • the process during which a truck transports shipments from a shipper’s location to a receiver’s location; the process during which crude oil is conveyed through a pipeline from a terminal to a refinery; a freight train carrying grain from an elevator to a port

Synonyms

  • act of shipping

Primitive Class

This class is declared primitive and it does not have necessary and sufficient condiftions defined.

Primitive Rationale

Necessary and sufficient conditions would require distinguishing transport from other material location change processes by the relation between the moved entity and the means of transport, for which no construct is available in this release.

Formal Axioms

First-Order Logic Axioms

TransportProcess(p) β†’ MaterialLocationChangeProcess(p) ∧ βˆƒr (MeansOfTransportRole(r) ∧ realizes(p,r))

Semi-Formal Natural Language Axioms

if x is a β€˜transport process’ then x is a β€˜material location change process’ that β€˜realizes’ some β€˜means of transport role’
