SubClass Of: bfo:relational quality

Class Hierarchy

owl:Thing β€Ί bfo:entity β€Ί bfo:continuant β€Ί bfo:specifically dependent continuant β€Ί bfo:quality β€Ί bfo:relational quality β€Ί osmolarity

Definition

relational quality of a solution that is the amount of osmotically active solute entities in that solution per unit volume of that solution

Explanatory Notes

Osmolarity is a colligative property in the sense that it depends primarily on the number of dissolved particles (osmotically active entities) rather than their chemical identity; it expresses this particle concentration on a volume-of-solution basis (i.e., osmoles of solute per liter of solution)

Examples

  • the osmolarity of a cell culture medium after concentrated feed addition; the osmolarity of a buffer solution after salt addition; the osmolarity of a liquid drug product formulation adjusted using excipients;

Primitive Class

This class is declared primitive and it does not have necessary and sufficient condiftions defined.

Primitive Rationale

There are insufficient constructs for creating a set of necessary and sufficient conditions

Formal Axioms

First-Order Logic Axioms

Osmolarity(x) β†’ RelationalQuality(x) ∧ βˆƒs (Solution(s) ∧ qualityOf(x, s))

Semi-Formal Natural Language Axioms

if x is an β€˜osmolarity’ then x is a β€˜relational quality’ that is the β€˜quality of’ some β€˜solution’
