Definition

capability of a material entity that is grounded in the entity’s physical structure and that can be realized in a process in which the entity holds one or more material entities within a bounded interior, cavity, surface-delimited area, or contained site

Explanatory Notes

1) This capability applies to material entites that hold material contents by means of their physical structure. 2) This capability does not by itself imply environmental control, mixing, sterility, pressure resistance, or suitability for a specific process. Those should be represented by more specific capabilities where needed. 3) The capability does not require that the bearer was designed for containment. For example, a naturally occurring or accidentally shaped object may have a containment capability if its structure allows it to hold material contents.

Examples

  • the material containment capability of an ISO freight container to hold packaged goods during transportation; the material containment capability of a tank container to hold bulk liquid cargo; the material containment capability of a sealed bottle to hold a liquid; the material containment capability of a single-use bioprocess bag to hold material undergoing cell cultivation; the material containment capability of a concave rock to hold rainwater

Primitive Class

This class is declared primitive and it does not have necessary and sufficient condiftions defined.

Primitive Rationale

There are insufficient construct to create a set of necessary and sufficient conditions. Detailed constructs will be developed as part of the Supply Chain WG effort.
