SubClass Of: bfo:quality

Class Hierarchy

Definition

quality of a material entity whose magnitude characterizes the average thermal energy per microscopic degree of freedom of that material entity

Explanatory Notes

1) The microscopic degrees of freedom relevant to temperature may include translational, rotational, vibrational, electronic, and collective modes, depending on the composition and physical state of the material entity. 2) Temperature is related to average thermal energy per microscopic degree of freedom but is not identical with total internal energy or with average translational kinetic energy. The precise relationship depends on which degrees of freedom are thermally accessible and may require qualification for quantum or non-equilibrium materials.

Examples

  • the temperature of cell culture medium in a bioreactor; the temperature of a buffer during preparation; the temperature of a formulation during refrigerated storage;

Primitive Class

This class is declared primitive and it does not have necessary and sufficient condiftions defined.

Primitive Rationale

There are insufficient constructs to create necessary and sufficient conditions.

Formal Axioms

First-Order Logic Axioms

Temperature(x) β†’ Quality(x) ∧ βˆƒm (MaterialEntity(m) ∧ qualityOf(x, m))

Semi-Formal Natural Language Axioms
