Definition

cell count that is the number of all cells present as parts of a material entity

Explanatory Notes

Total cell count includes both viable and non-viable cells in the assessed cell population. A count restricted to viable cells is represented separately as viable cell count.

Examples

  • the total cell count of a seed bioreactor culture sample measured by an automated cell counter using trypan blue exclusion; the total cell count of a production bioreactor culture sample reported by an automated cell counter as the combined count of viable and non-viable cells;
