Definition

process profile that captures variation in an attribute of a process or one of its participants per unit of elapsed time

Explanatory Notes

An attribute captured by a rate process profile may itself be represented by another process profile, as when an acceleration profile captures variation in a speed profile per unit of elapsed time.

Examples

  • glucose consumption rate during a fed-batch cell culture process; product formation rate during a fermentation process; biomass formation rate during microbial cultivation; feed addition rate during a material feeding process; number of Tetra Pak cartons filled per hour by a packaging line; rate of potable water output from a water treatment plant
