material state of a solution in which the dissolved solute concentration stays below, at, or above the solute’s equilibrium saturation concentration in that solution under prevailing conditions

Explanatory Notes

Prevailing conditions in this context are the environmental and compositional variables that determine the solute’s equilibrium solubility for that solution at that time, typically including temperature and pH, and, where relevant, solvent composition (e.g., cosolvents), ionic strength, and the presence of other solutes/excipients that measurably shift solubility.
